Unlocking M1 Vodafone Huawei E220 USB Modem

As usual, it was a quiet Saturday afternoon for me. Since I'm only going to visit my 亲爱的 next week, I decided to mess around with my M1 Vodafone Huawei E220 USB Modem. I'm using Singtel Mobile for my handphone, but has subcribed to M1 Vodafone Broadband on Mobile. When I took up this service, the Huawei modem is a loan. I think M1 actually locked the modem, so that non-M1 sim cards cannot be used. Since time is bad, I thought I should just get a multi-sim card from Singtel, and cancel the M1 subscription to cut down my expenses. I'll continue to use the modem with a Singtel sim card, until M1 ask me to return. Did some searching on the internet, and finally come across a website that provides information.

Get ready the following software

Here are the steps
1. connect the E220 Huawei usb modem to the computer
2. Run QC BQS Analyser
3. Under Hardware Forensics, select use Com/USB Port

4. Check that Serial Com Port shows Huawei Mobile Connect
5. Click Send Cmd, and you should receive HEX characters in the white box. 6. In the Diag Functions, select drop down menu and choose Read EFS

7. Click Let's Go and save the dump file.

8. Wait for the download to be completed. Unregistered QMAT only has 10 minutes. If download is not completed before 10 minutes is up, it doesn't really matter. The part that is needed for the unlock is likely to be in the saved file.

9. open saved file with hex editor, search for following hex-chain: 53-64-2C-00. You should see 8 decimal numbers a few positions after this hex-chain on the right panel. The number here is 13312629.

10. run E220 SimLock_UnLock.exe, enter this 8 digit unlock code. This utility will tell you if the unlock is successful or not.

11. Plug out the usb modem to reset it.

It should be unlock now.
