I have been travelling to China for the past 10 years, but it is only last week I learnt from my 亲爱的 that most couples don't hold hands in China. I didn't believe her because for the past one year, we have been holding hands in public, and she didn't say a word. For the next 30 minutes, we walked along JianGuomenwai Dajie, and yes, what she said to me is indeed true. Most couples were either walking with linked arms, or the guy's arms over the girl's shoulder. I asked her what is wrong with holding hands. She said that only teenagers do that, or parents holding their children's hands. Effective that evening, we have stopped holding hands. Gosh, no wonder we had stares from people because we did something unusual in public. Or maybe it is also the 18 years of difference in age that has caused unnecessary attention.
